Your Bentonville Lady Tigers Girls Soccer team overcame a strong Tulsa Union High School squad 3-0 in their first game of the season last night in Tulsa. A hat trick by Angelina Diaz led the Tigers to the victory in their benefit game.

In fantastic soccer conditions, cool with little wind, the Lady Tigers came out very confidently. A defense splitting pass by Ginger Olson from the left wing made its way across the goal box to Diaz, who calmly converted a low shot past the Union goalkeeper in the 6th minute to open the scoring.

The Union offense kept up the pressure, and some fine interceptions by defenders Megan Sattler, Brianna Willis, Emma Luebker and Carrie Kotoucek kept Tigers goalkeeper Bre East without much to worry her. She was, however, called into action when a Union striker evaded the Tiger defense, but East did well to get down low to block the shot and keep the shutout going.

Then, with about ten minutes remaining in the first half, Tyler Ann Reash made a run down the right and crossed to Diaz, who again made no mistake, burying a right footed shot into the net to make it 2-0. The first half ended with no more scoring.

In the second half, the Tigers kept their composure, and a midfield trio of Taylor Muff, Megan Gotwalt and Grace Rodriguez pulled the strings to thwart any chances that Union had to build up their offense.

And, with approximately fifteen minutes remaining, Freshman Lauren Parker played a short diagonal ball to the left to Diaz, who ensured that she completed her first hat trick of the season. Seniors Stevie Law, Madeleine Leonard and Andie Kugler came in towards the end to shore up the middle and provide some fresh legs to finish the game. The final score: 3-0.

In addition to Parker playing her first Varsity game, Coach Kris Henry gave Juniors Brooke Addison, Olivia Brown and Freshman Maddy Meyer their Varsity debuts. The Lady Tigers next play Southside next Tuesday away at 4:30pm.
