The Leopards 8th grade football team took advantage of three interceptions for touchdowns to pull away from Kirksey 42-10 in their first game of the season.
The Cougars took the ball to start the game and drove deep into Leopard territory before being stopped on 4th down at the 14 yard line. The Leopards responded with a 9-play, 86-yard drive capped by a 20-yard touchdown run by Aidan Honeycutt. The Cougars fumbled on the first play of the ensuing drive. The Leopards quickly added another score as Jaylen Lee scored from 3 yards out capping a 5-play, 31 yard drive to open the second quarter. Nathan Harrington intercepted a Kirksey pass on third down of the next drive and returned it 51 yards to put the Leopards ahead 21-0. The Leopards would get one more possession before halftime but the drive stalled on a failed 4th down conversion in Kirksey territory.
The Leopards received the opening kickoff of the second half and quickly found the endzone as they went 64 yards in 4 plays. The highlight was a 36 yard touchdown run by JT Tomescko. The Leopards would add two more pick-sixes on back-to-back Kirksey offensive plays by Jaylen Lee and Nick Bell. Diego Reyes made 5 of 6 extra points to give the Leopards a 41-0 lead.
Kirksey got on the board with a touchdown on their next drive and took advantage of a Leopard fumble to add a field goal for the final score, 42-10.
Tate West led the Leopard defense with 7 tackles and a fumble recovery.
The Leopard 7th grade team won 52-0 in the first ever 7th grade game for Lincoln Junior High. Runningbacks Cole Edmondson and Alex Anderson led the Leopard offense to 7 touchdowns. Anderson was also credited for a safety on defense.
The Leopards play Fulbright next Thursday, September 6th at Bentonville West.
