The Bentonville West Wolverines was the newcomer in the 7-West last season. For those football pundits that expected Bentonville West to embarrass themselves, they would wind up disappointed, because the Wolverines reached the playoffs. The Wolverines were able to rack up three wins on the season, in 2016. The Wolverines will have plenty of experience coming back with 11 starters back on each side of the ball.
On the offensive side of the ball, fans should look for Will Jarrett and all-state wide receiver Jadon Jackson to continue to give the opposing defenses headaches. Jackson caught 59 passes last season for 9 touchdowns and has all the tools to have an even bigger season in 2017. If the offense can continue to grow and sustain drives this could be a very dangerous Wolverines team this season.
The area where the Wolverines are looking to improve the most is on the defensive side of the ball. Bentonville West gave up 40 points per game last season and that number needs to decrease to give the Wolverines a serious chance at the 7-A West title. Look for linebacker Sebastian Caniglia to continue to lead the defense in tackles and from calling the signals on the defensive side of the ball. Bentonville West is my surprise team to come out of the 7-A West and I would not be shocked to see them make a playoff run, if everything continues to come together.
